MY BACKGROUND
I grew up in the heart of Manhattan , New York , where I began my Art career at the Art Student's League. In the 1960's, I studied under the Ford Scholarship and Monitorship with well known artists such as Arnold Blanch, Morris Kantor, Vaclav Vytlacil, Charles BAlston, Arthur Foster, Larry Poons, and Peter Golfinopoulos. I went on to show my work nationally and internationally. I am the recipient of prizes in the areas of graphics, watercolors, acrylics and silk painting.

MY INSPIRATION
Inspired by the mysteries of the Ancients, painting has led me through the magical ruins, landscapes, and communities of Europe, South America, North Africa and the Middle East .  In 1975, I was captivated by the monumental beauty of New Mexico, becoming enchanted by the small village of Pilar, NM. This is where I have settled, lived, and painted for the last 30 years. My studio is surrounded by majestic cliffs and hugged by the Rio Grande River from which I draw my inspiration.   The beauty and multi-cultural environment nurtures my well-being and creativity.

MY SPECIALTY
The most striking aspect of the work is the innovative, luminous and subtle use of color. I love mixing my own colors. Colors for me, take on a healing force. They mirror the wonder of the universe.  The magical vibrations of the spectrum of light have a therapeutic effect on our mental and physical well being. These silk creations unite spirit and art and contribute to balance, harmony, and joy.

MY MEDIUM

For many years, I explored the versatility of the Acrylic medium, creating semi-abstract and abstract paintings on canvas, that I call inner and outer landscapes. From acrylics to watercolors, to mixed-media constructions, I found my way joyously to the exciting exploration of painting on silk.

Silk is a luxurious, smooth and sensuous natural fiber that translates my unique Southwestern landscapes and original motifs into stylish scarves, shawls, kimonos, ties, wall hangings, paintings and wearable art. I paint the silks like watercolors using only the highest quality Sennelier Tenfix dyes. They are painted free style, using interesting calligraphic elements or in a more controlled manner by using water based resists. The ancient Japanese art of Shibori has inspired unusual patterns and stunning effects.

MY SILKS
All silks are steam set to assure color fastness. They can be hand-washed or dry cleaned. My work consists of a variety of silks includingCharmeuse: which is extra-luxuriant, smooth, and shiny; Habotai: which is lighter weight and flowing; Jacquard: which is textured and extremely elegant; Silk Chiffon: which is graceful and delicate; and Silk Velvet: which is soft and sensuous. All silks are hand-hemmed.
